Nurture Box

Celebrity Book Auction for Charity

Well known New Zealanders have teamed up with Nurture Box to auction a selection of favourite children's books on TradeMe for I Got Your Back Pack. All profits raised will help I Got Your Back Pack who provide backpacks filled with practical and essential items to women and children that enter the Women’s Refuge across New Zealand.

Double Olympic Gold Medallists Eric Murray (2012 and 2016 - Rowing), Caroline Meyer & Georgina Earl (nee Ever-Swindells) (2004 and 2008 - Rowing), Lisa Carrington (2012 and 2016 - Canoe Sprint) and triple Olympic medallist Barbara Kendall (Board Sailing) headline the charity auction. Added to the mix is Joseph Sullivan former rower and Olympic gold medallist and now America’s Cup winner from Emirates Team New Zealand. The Olympians have donated their favourite childhood books, along with other high profile athletes including former World and Commonwealth Champion cyclist Alison Shanks, Commonwealth weightlifting champion Richie Patterson and power couple All Black Israel Dagg and cookbook author Daisy Dagg.

Over 15 celebrities have contributed signed books to raise money for the charity. Including well known New Zealand personalities such as “How to Dad” creator Jordan Watson, musician Hollie Smith and former Split Enz band member Mike Chunn and comedian Jaquie Brown. Well known New Zealand children’s book author Kat Quin Mereweather has also donated a selection of her books and soft toys for the cause.

All books in the auction have been specially chosen by the donors as significant to their own childhood or their childrens’ and are autographed on the inside cover. Barbara Kendall’s chosen book - The Very Hungry Caterpillar - is one which she fondly remembers reading to her girls, as they acted and ate their way through the pages.

The auctions open on Sunday 9 July and will run through until Sunday 16 July with all proceeds going to I Got Your Back. The auction timing falls in line with the charities first year of being a registered charity. I Got Your Back Pack and Nurture Box are grateful to all the celebrity donors and all the bidders on the auction for their support as every dollar raised will go a long way in making a difference in the work that the charity does.

Nurture Box is proud to support ‘I Got Your Back Pack’. Creator and Founder Hannah Gentile says Nurture Box relishes the opportunity to team up with such an amazing charity. “We believe in helping parents educate, excite, and inspire their children, especially through tough times. Being part of that village who supports mother and child is New Zealand is so important. The auction is the perfect way for New Zealanders to support other New Zealanders and for us to turn our Book Box subscription launch into something meaningful for the whole community.”

Nurture Box is also generously giving away three book boxes to three lucky bidders on the auction to say thanks for their support of the Charity - I Got Your Back Pack.

About I Got Your Back Pack

I Got Your Back Pack is a non-profit initiative established in support of Women’s Refuge and Shine.

Most women and children in crisis circumstances have had to leave their homes with very little (if any) personal possessions. I Got Your Back Pack believes that gifting a backpack filled with practical and essential items to each woman and child engaging with women’s refuge, goes a long way towards easing some of their distress and provide, especially for the children, some much needed positive and comforting distractions in these early days of upheaval and change within their lives.
